Working Together

Dr. Brock offers consulting for schools as well as individual families.  She welcomes inquiries from school leaders, department chairs, learning specialists, teachers and parents. While her work is always tailored to meet the needs of each individual client, she consistently uses a mixed-methods (quantitative and qualitative) approach and follows the following process:

STEP 1: Needs Assessment

Dr. Brock begins by listening and learning everything she can about the current client:

  • What is working well?

  • What has been identified as challenging?

  • What “story” can be understood by looking at standardized test scores for patterns in student achievement?

  • How do students report feeling in math classes?

  • What can be observed by watching a class?

STEP 3: Implementation

Dr. Brock ensures she and her client make a clear written plan for the first 3-6 months of work if further coaching is recommended. She and her client define what “success” would look like before moving forward.

STEP 2: Recommendations

Dr. Brock presents a menu of research-informed recommendations for the client. In collaboration, she and her client decide which steps to prioritize initially and make a 3-6 month implementation plan. Possible recommendations include:

  • Student coaching on learning strategies, math anxiety and executive functioning

  • Teacher observations and coaching on pacing, differentiation, formative assessment and feedback

  • School-wide review of curriculum alignment, instructional priorities and trends in standardized tests scores.

STEP 4: Evaluation

After a 3-6 month period, Dr. Brock uses quantitative and qualitative data to determine if the stated goals were met, and what steps need to be taken to solidify and/or expand upon that growth.
